We were married on June 23, 2001...seems just like yesterday!! The whole day was a big adventure, but we all made it through alive! LOL Our ceremony was held at The Shields Grove Gazebo on the campus of the University of California, Davis. Our reception was held at The Davis Senior Center.
My day started out by my being woken up to the song "Going to the Chapel". Thanks Mom! My dad's cousin Danny was going around, with tears in his eyes, saying that he couldn't believe my mom was playing that song for me without crying. Anyone that really knows me knows that I'm a stickler when it comes to time. I like to have things planned out and stick to my plan. Well, times that by 100 and that's how I was on my wedding day, so imagine my thoughts and feelings when my uncle's wife was 30 minutes late to do my hair. That completely threw off my schedule, but I was later to find out that that wouldn't matter.
My hair was finally done and it looked awesome! Next was make-up, my aunt had been waiting for my hair to be done with so she could start on my face. Once that was done, I headed off to my room, at my parents house. I was in there, with my dress hanging from a hook in the ceiling when my little twin cousins came in with orange Popsicles. I scared them off with my screams! My dress was saved! LOL
For some reason, everyone decided to hang out at my parents while I got ready, well, that wasn't going to fly, so my mom kicked everyone out. All that was left was myself, my mom, my aunt and my uncle's wife (yes she's my aunt, but I'm not going into that). It was time for my dress to be put on. My aunt helped me and boy was that hard work! We took up the whole family room, good thing I already had my shoes on too! After that I looked at the clock and realized it was almost time to go. I headed to the living room and peeked out the curtains, which led me to ask my mom just how we were getting to the ceremony. She responds by saying in the suburban to which I replied with "Ok, that would work...if the suburban was HERE!" She screamed out "What?!?!" I then told her that there were infact absolutely NO cars at the house! Seems that when she kicked everyone out, my dad left as well and no one thought about MY ride to my own wedding!! We started calling people, but of course being that it was a wedding, everyone had their phones turned off. Finally, my brother had borrowed a friend's cell to call and say that they forgot the stereo and music for the ceremony and could I bring it with me. I started yelling into the phone that I would if I had a freaken ride! I hung up out of anger and frustration. My mom came running and grabbed the phone to call back in case they had left the phone on. She got through and told whoever she talked to to have my dad come get us. My brother got a ride to pick up the stereo and music, by this time I'm standing in the living room with my arms crossed. Can you picture it? LOL I demanded to know where my dad was and my brother told me he was on his way. During this time, my mom went on to say how she was late for her wedding, and what were people going to do, it's not like they could start the wedding without me....20 minutes go by and my dad finally gets there. He was greeted by screams! I asked him what took so long and he said he had to stop and get gas. Imagine my reaction! ;)
So, I finally made it to my own wedding and the ceremony started 40 minutes late!! Yeah, my schedule went right out the window. It was a beautiful ceremony officiated by my dad's cousin's husband. He is a commissioner in Southern California, it was a civil ceremony, but he added that personal touch and even included scriptures from the bible and prayer. Afterwards, we were whisked off by horse and carriage to our reception.
A good time was had by all at the reception. The highlight of the night was when Anthony got the garter stuck in his teeth!! Oh, it was hilarious!! I wish I had pics of that...I'm sure I do somewhere...
We danced our first dance to "It's Your Love" by Tim McGraw. I danced with my dad to "Butterfly Kisses". We had a total of 11 toasts given by family and friends. The night included lots of dancing, we did the money dance, garter and bouquet toss, cake and so much more!
Our wedding day was all that I had hoped for, well except the whole running late issue ;P It was a day I wish I could live over and over again.
